Mexico! For ages, we’ve joked with a group of our friends about one day going on a “friend vacation” and living it up, and surprisingly when we were in the midst of planning this trip it actually worked out for most of us to go! Honestly, it wasn’t something I really expected to come to fruition anytime soon so it was pretty crazy to watch a dream become reality. Not that it was perfect by any stretch, but definitely an amazing opportunity and a special memory now!
There were a lot of fun & sweet moments with our friends throughout the week. Our couples photoshoot was definitely a highlight, and ended on a pretty crazy but hilarious note when it started pouring rain and we were throwing towels around trying to protect the camera while we kept going 😂 I always look like a midget standing beside Andrew but sometimes that’s the cost of marrying the person you love 🤣
Visiting Chichen Itza will also forever be a cherished memory for me. It was amazing. I never realized how huge the city was and it’s really something else to be standing there yourself and realize how small you are by comparison to these incredible ruins. Really awe-inspiring.
To be brutally honest, I find that I have a love-hate relationship with travel posts, because it seems to me like we’ve made a bit of an idol out of travel in our culture. We tend to hold it up as the highest achievement, the most ideal future, the most desirable outcome. A sign you’ve really “made it.” And while I love to travel, I find I enjoy it the LEAST when I am expecting it to be those things. I’ve found that however happy or satisfied I already am at home in Canada, that’s how happy I will be while traveling. However healthy or rough my relationship currently is with Andrew (or, in this case, even more people haha!), that’s how healthy my relationship will be with him on vacation. Maybe it’s just me, but I find that it’s easy to hope that vacations and travel will “fix” or eradicate your problems and tension points, transforming you into a better, more ideal version of yourself, and that has never been the case for me. It’s wonderful to get to put aside work stress and immerse yourself into a new environment and just take a break, but I find it’s very true that “life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it” (Charles R. Swindoll). And while travel is a wonderful privilege, a great gift when you can do it, it’s not worth making an idol out of it. Making the most of where you are and being happy with the blessings you already have is far more beneficial in my experience 🙂 And even if you never travel a single day in your life, it’s okay!
Anyway. Enough with the monologue, lol! We had an absolutely lovely time and I would love to go back someday. We couldn’t get enough of the ocean and beaches 😍 You’ll see what I mean in the photos haha!
Here are a few of the highlights from our trip!
Looks like a fun time was had by all 🥰
